Jim McKenzie, Transport Business Unit Director
With a BSc (1st Class Honours) in Computer Science and Microprocessor Systems, 1984, Jim is an experienced divisional manager, programme manager and project manager with over 20 years of project experience in a variety of companies and market sectors. He has an outstanding track record of successful delivery of complex, high risk projects. Jim has delivered key projects for companies including Marconi, Digital, BP and Compaq before joining Real Time in 1991.
Jim spent his first 9 years at Real Time mainly in the Energy and Utilities markets, delivering multi-million pound projects and programmes including energy trading systems to SSE and NPower (now RWE). Key consultancy roles during this period included the Quality Manager role, and subsequently the Assistant Programme Manager, on ScottishPower’s £300M Power Systems Change 1998 Programme. This multi-million pound project was setup to develop and implement the systems needed for deregulation of the Power industry in 1998, which will allow 25 million domestic users to choose their electricity supplier. Jim assumed role of Energy and Utilities Divisional Manager in 1997.
In 2000, Jim took on the role of Aviation Divisional Manager and has grown the Division from £1.5M to £4M annual turnover, playing a key role in securing multi-million pound contracts with blue-chip customers including BAA and NATS. This role included business planning, budget management, leadership of the sales team, bid management and proposal production, proposals, technical consultancy, customer relationship management, resource management, line management of Project Managers and senior consultants (Glasgow and London based). Jim became Business Unit Director of Transport in May 2008.
