Process Safety

Personal safety and the prevention of lost time incidents in the energy industry has long been a focus for organisations looking to invest in making their operation safer.
High profile incidents such as Buncefield and Texas City have highlighted that process failures are becoming more frequent with alarming severity. These type of incidents highlight that current systems may not provide an adequate level of safety specifically in relation to the process aspect of the Oil, Gas, Utilities and wider Energy operations.
Amor Group is leading the way in process safety across the energy sector, working in partnership with ScottishPower to help develop and deliver methodologies and tools that, in conjunction with our domain knowledge, skill and expertise, are delivering a cost effective solution that is helping them to effectively protect their workers, contractors and assets.
Martin Sedgewick, Head of Asset Management at ScottishPower has credited Amor Group with playing a “vital role in supporting ScottishPower's drive to put process safety top of the agenda for energy businesses by providing top class consultancy and a bespoke process safety IT solution.”Maturity Assessment and Roadmap
Amor Group provides initial support to establish the maturity of an organisations’ process safety management capability. Guided by the principles set out in key industry regulations and guidelines including HSG254, PAS 55, COMAH and RR509 - Amor Group consultants work in conjunction with the process safety champion and key individuals with responsibility for process safety such as Operations Management, Maintenance Management, Asset Strategy Managers and Staff Competence to establish the maturity of the process safety guidelines and roadmap, formulating and progressing the plans required to move towards the creation of a comprehensive and robust process safety management system.
Enhancing Process Safety Management
For organisations where process safety management is more established, we design and document the complete process safety management system. Through analysis of existing systems and processes Amor Group identifies the readiness of an organisation to implement our operational KPI dashboard to support process safety management.
Working alongside the key Process Safety group we investigate each element of the HSG254 framework to establish a Process Safety Management System (PSMS) that is appropriate for the organisation. In line with HSG254, PAS 55, COMAH and RR509 the PSMS will document the roles and responsibilities within the organisation for process safety, define the boundaries of the PSMS, identify the key leading and lagging process safety indicators within these boundaries categorised by risk control system and initiate the governance and review process.
Amor Group consultants will specifically focus on the data collection methods required to support the PSMS and identify readiness for an automated KPI Dashboard solution.
