The programme aims to provide a Data Centre aligned with Tier III of the Uptime Institute's classification. The project will provide additional rackspace and comms rooms; in conjunction with upgraded power distribution, cooling, security and access controls and environmental management.
Outside of the immediate availability benefits, the outcomes of the project will help reduce the business risks to our clients arising from loss of critical ICT infrastructure and single points of failure; demonstrate sustainable and efficient energy use; and enhance the reputation and profile of Amor Group as a leading example of innovation and best practice in the Data Centre space.
The programme will fully leverage our business, technology and environmental expertise, whilst collaborating with other relevant technology partners to provide specialist input on constructing the leading Data Centre facility in Aberdeen.
You can follow the data centre build here as we chart project milestones and important phases within the programme.

The Final Countdown
19th August 2010
As we move in to the final weeks of the build, all the installations are now nearing completion. Our newest data hall is now floored and awaiting only lighting and new hardware, whilst the UPS systems is in situ with Tier III compliant N+1+1 air condition, only awaiting the final connection to the generator. One of the biggest of the final jobs was the installation of the main switching panel which, as you can see from the picture taken before delivery, is something of a monster.

Edging towards completion

This week saw the data room move closer to completion with the installation of the remaining pipework and cabling for aspects including the CCUs, FM200 fire suppression system and VESDA. In order to ensure compliance with Tier III, our UPS was installed in to its new home, ready to be connected to the new super-sized generator.

Yet More Significant Progress
23rd July 2010
This week saw the UPS units and batteries in place, with the installation of all overhead power and data containment completed. As the site moves closer to completion we have also seen the door frames fitted and windows blacked out with film (hence the temporary lighting), ready to panelled in the coming week. In addition to securing the windows, the M&E work will see significant progress with delivery of the generator, installation of the AC ducting and breaking out of the switch room floor for power cabling.

Moving On With Mechanical Work
9th July 2010
Now that the initial strip out and preparatory works have been completed, the next phase of the build sees a focus on the mechanical aspects of the installation, with delivery of the AC system, including Close Control Units (CCUs). The data room is now beginning to take shape, with all the cable management trays installed in the unastrut mounts, and the CCUs taking their place alongside the distribution boards ready for connection.

Progressing Nicely
5th July 2010
As we move through the various stages of our data centre build, we can quickly see each of the separate phases coming together and taking shape – giving an idea of what our data centre team and customers can expect to see once the project has been completed.
The latest work to be completed includes the installation of all relevant cable management and M&E-related items within the main data room and linking corridors and rooms.
The past week has also seen the preparatory works begin for the installation of a second generator with the slab work and channelling completed and ready for the next stage of installation.Cable Management Installed

The Prep Work Continues
24th June 2010
Now that the single space has been created, work has moved on to the initial ceiling filling and under coating, in addition to preparatory M&E works such as unastrut mounts for the cable management trays and the fitting of the distribution boards. Work has also encompassed widening doorways and framing the windows in the room to allow for the security panels to be fitted.

When Two Become One
21st June 2010
The last build diary entry showed 2 very separate rooms, in the final phases of stripout, before being reunited. We can now see the extent of the additional space created by transforming these rooms in to one large area in which to situate our additional rackspace, particularly when looking back on the pictures from the previous diary entry.
Next up for the reunited rooms - sealing and painting of the ceiling.

Stripped and Ready for Action
11th June 2010
The beginning of June saw the physical building works getting underway with downtakings in the key development areas in preparation for the first phase of sealing and painting. All of this preparatory work is leading to the transformation of 2 rooms into 1, paving the way for the majority of the extra rack space in the newest section of our Data Centre facility.

The Data Centre build commenced at the end of May, with the initial strip out of the areas to be upgraded beginning in earnest. In the interest of posterity, here are a few snaps that show the space in its former glory before the workmen got their hands on it:
