Hundreds of employees and their families gathered at Perth Racecourse yesterday for an afternoon of celebrations to mark the first anniversary and raise money for ENABLE, which is Amor Group’s nominated charity for the next 12 months.
Staff from Amor Group’s offices in Glasgow, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Coventry and even Houston (USA) enjoyed games including archery, an authentic hog roast lunch and face painting and a bouncy castle.
The fundraising drive was kicked off with a raffle which raised £1,250 for the charity, with prizes donated by many generous suppliers and partners including a light aircraft flight, a meal at The Witchery in Edinburgh and a Harrods hamper.
Support for a nominated charity is integral to Commit, Amor Group’s new CSR scheme, which is shaped and driven by a group of volunteers from across the company.
ENABLE Scotland was nominated by Amor Group staff, who, as part of Commit will also be given the opportunity to take one day’s paid leave per year to carry out volunteer work with the charity’s projects.
The charity works with children and adults with learning disabilities, supporting them and their families to live, work and take part in their communities. The work that ENABLE undertakes allows many of the children and adults to live independently, find jobs, develop an active social life, go on holiday or undertake training courses.
John Innes, Amor Group’s Chief Executive Officer, said the company was keen to encourage its workforce to get involved.
“We have had an extremely successful year since we undertook a management buyout in May 2009, with strong results and the creation of 70 new jobs in our first year of trading as Amor Group, which is proud to be Scotland’s largest independent business technology company.
“As well as celebrating our achievements with our staff, we want to have a positive impact in the communities in which we operate, from working with academic organisations to supporting local charities such as ENABLE Scotland.”
“We are encouraging all of our staff to take an active role in Commit, which covers social events, fundraising, managing academic relationships and working with customers to integrate Commit into their own CSR strategies.”
Jennifer Niven, Head of Corporate and Events at ENABLE Scotland, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to be chosen by Amor Group as charity of the year. It’s support like this that allows us to do our vital work with people who have learning disabilities, especially just now, when money is so tight. We’re really looking forward to working with everyone at Amor Group.”
Amor Group provides business technology solutions, professional services and managed services to the energy, transport and public sectors.
Since the £28million management buyout of Pragma and Real Time from Sword Group in May 2009, Amor Group has employed an additional 70 staff, bringing the total number of employees to 400.
With more than 20 years experience in the ICT industry, Amor Group is headquartered at India of Inchinnan, Glasgow, with offices in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Coventry and Houston, Texas.
